I Did It!

I finished my dress at exactly 9:45 this morning. The awards dinner was at noon. I got less than 4 hours of sleep last night but it was well worth it. Everyone commented on my dress.

Whew! I can't recommend the class enough. You might want to give yourself a week or two, though. Completing a couture level dress in a week is pushing it. I'll spend all of next week catching up on my housework.

Yesterday I sewed in the lining. Sewing linings is not my favorite. Don't look too close.

Your dress looks fantastic!
It is amazing the lengths we go to if we really want to make something special. This month it was very sad as our neice died. I really wanted to make something special for her funeral so decided to make myself a dress. I worked 2 days virtually non stop until it was finished - even had to take a waistband out I didn't like but do you know, that dress was perfect and I'm really glad I made it.
You look a million dollars in your dress.

Oh Lynne, I am so sorry to hear that your niece passed away. That is never easy but is especially difficult around the holidays. My heart goes out to you and your family.
Wow! You made a dress in 2 days? I am impressed. Mine took 7 days of doing nothing else but sewing. You should see my pile of dishes. I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband who spurred me on.

You do look like a million bucks! What a beautiful job. I have some time tomorrow to go to JoAnn for fabric and am going to start the class. Thanks so much for posting about your adventure!

Alice, I just want to be sure you use silk organza (not polyester) for your underlining. They don't have it at Jo-Anns but it is essential to this class. Dharma Trading Co. has it on their website. Pay the extra dollar to get the wider width. Dharma ships promptly and you will have your organza in a few days. I just ordered 10 yds. of the stuff. :-) Of course, if you already have it, just ignore me.

Also make sure you have enough glass headed pins. You'll be doing a LOT of ironing and (trust me) the plastic pin heads melt....with little provocation. One other thing that is very nice to have is large sheets of waxed carbon paper. You can always tape the smaller sheets together but having the large size is nice. I ordered some in 3 colors (navy, red & white) from Richard the Thread.

This is just awesome dress on you and color is pretty, and fit! Do you like it, is it comfortable to wear?
I still a little nervous to make it. Signed for the class and love watching it.

Iryna, I love, love, LOVE my dress. It fits amazingly well. Like a glove.

Don't be nervous about the class. If I can do it, you sure can. But don't make yourself have to finish it in a week. That part wasn't fun.

I didn't watch the entire video before embarking. I just watched each segment as I went along. That way I didn't feel overwhelmed.

Next up? The Craftsy fitting class. I have the pattern. Just need to find time to get started.
